Jordon Hudson sported a dress over the weekend made completely of “ghost gear.”
She debuted the recycled ensemble Saturday evening at the 51st Maine Fishermen’s Forum.
In an Instagram post this week, Hudson, the daughter of a fisherman from Hancock, called ghost gear the Gulf of Maine’s “sexiest problem,” noting that discarded and abandoned fishing gear can “uncontrollably” trap marine life.
The dress was made from 36 pounds of rope recovered from the ocean off Port Clyde back in 2023. It was made in collaboration with fashion designer Runa Ray and Rozalia Project, a nonprofit dedicated to cleaning up plastic pollution in the ocean.
Fishing gear can become lost in the Gulf of Maine from entanglements with rope or being dragged out during storms. One four-year project removed more than 80,000 pounds of gear from the gulf, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
It’s not the first time Hudson has used her popular Instagram account to champion causes affecting Maine fishermen. Last March, she took to the platform to call on the Trump administration to restore support for Maine Sea Grant, which lost federal funding during the administration’s pressure campaign against the state for allowing the inclusion of transgender athletes on scholastic girls sports teams. That funding was later restored.
Beyond her advocacy for fishermen, Hudson has garnered headlines for her relationship with former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. Hudson and Belichick met on a flight in 2021 and began dating in 2022. They moved in together back in 2024.
They are reportedly engaged.
Belichick started his NFL career in 1975 as an assistant for the Baltimore Colts, 26 years before Hudson was born in April 2001. Belichick won his first Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2002.
Belichick is now coaching at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
