The operators of the Fryeburg Fair say they will return to a traditional eight-day schedule after last year’s controversial decision to add an extra day.
Last fall, the Fryeburg Fair opened a day earlier than usual without licensed approval from the state’s agriculture commissioner. That added day overlapped with the Cumberland Fair’s last and most popular day.
A state representative from Cumberland is now proposing a bill to prohibit the operation of a fair on an unlicensed day.
Fryeburg Fair President Dave Hastings said in a statement Monday that he expects lawmakers to approve the measure, and since the application for a license for that extra Saturday was denied, he will return to running eight days this year.
