A Sainsbury’s store manager has won £12,000 after an International Men’s Day social media post left him feeling “humiliated and violated”.

Darren Cooper was on leave for anxiety when his regional director put up a post celebrating male leaders who “all show up for work each day, put on a name badge and provide support, guidance and leadership”.

The post included a photo of every regional store manager named and tagged, except Cooper.

Cooper told an employment tribunal in Cardiff that he felt “excluded, humiliated and violated” when he saw it.

The tribunal ruled in his favour, agreeing he had been “humiliated” and that it amounted to harassment related to disability and unfavourable treatment because of something arising in consequence of disability.

Cooper will receive £11,852 in compensation, including £7,500 for injury to feelings.

His claims of disability discrimination and unfair dismissal were dismissed by the tribunal.
