Hilary Duff admitted she didn’t get much of an education while working as a child actor.
While appearing on the Monday, March 2, episode of the “Table Manners” podcast, host Jessie Ware and her mother, Lennie, asked Duff, 38, about her experience with school.
“Cause you were a child star, how did that interfere with your education?” Lennie asked.
Duff replied, “Zero education … But I know a lot about a lot of things.”

Lennie was surprised by Duff’s assessment and told her she was a “clever” person.
“You come across as really smart,” Lennie said.
Ware asked Duff if she was “homeschooled,” and Duff replied that she took an alternative route.
“My mom was like, ‘Can you just go get your GED?’” she reflected before elaborating on what a GED is. “It’s like the most basic credential of an education.”
Lennie asked Duff if she was interested in going to school now that she’s older.
“I’m happy. I feel like I educated myself on my own about different things I was interested in,” the singer shared, adding that “reading” is one of her favorite activities when she has the time. “I think I’m past the window of caring that my education wasn’t great, because I feel like I got strengths in other areas, and it kind of helps.”
Duff explained that she’s “not shy to ask a question about something,” and she’s fully aware she had a different childhood experience compared to others.
“I know that my life was different than most, and I don’t need to be embarrassed that I don’t know when a certain war took place,” she reflected. “There’s Google for that.”

While Duff didn’t get the experience of a normal education, she’s making sure her children get the chance to learn. (Duff shares son Luca with ex-husband Mike Comrie as well as daughters Banks, Mae and Townes with husband Matthew Koma.)
“Something that’s been so cool is connecting to my kid and having him teach me stuff that I didn’t know about because he is getting a really great education,” she said of Luca’s schooling experience, adding that it’s “way more important” for all of her kids to focus on school.
Duff began her acting career at 10 years old. She rose to fame playing the titular character on Lizzie McGuire. Following her success on the Disney Channel series, Duff appeared in countless more movies and TV shows. She also pursued a successful music career.
