At the conclusion of every Maine high school basketball season, the best senior players from around the state are invited to participate in the McDonald’s All-Star Weekend hosted by the Maine Association of Basketball coaches.
This weekend, those players will join together in Bangor to play a series of all-star games and go head-to-head in various skills competitions at Husson University, including a dunk contest and 3-point shooting contest.
The impressive list is headlined by the likes of Miss Maine Basketball finalists Maddie Provost of Lawrence High School in Fairfield, Addison Cyr of Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln and Kylie Lamson of Cheverus in Portland. And on the boys side, Nolan Ames of Camden Hills in Rockport, Akol Maiwen of Edward Little in Auburn and Tyrie James of Windham are in the running for Mr. Maine Basketball.
Those award winners will be crowned as the top senior players in Maine at a banquet Friday night at the Anah Shrine Hall in Bangor.
There will be several skills competitions and all-star games at Husson in Bangor on Saturday. The schedule starts with a foul shot competition at 8:15 a.m., followed by the girls Class A-B all-star game at 9:20 a.m. The boys Class A-B game will start at 10:45 a.m.
Then there will be slam dunk and 3-point shot competitions starting at noon, followed by the girls Class C, D and S all-star game at 1 p.m. and the boys Class C, D and S game at 2:30 p.m.
All games are played between an all-star team from the state’s southern region and a team from the northern region.
