Pop star Tate McRae and Team USA hockey hero Jack Hughes are officially an item.
“Tate and Jack are dating,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “They started casually seeing each other late last year, so it’s still new, but they are exclusively seeing each other.”
The insider says the pair connected after Hughes, 24, “initially messaged her on IG and started a conversation.”
“She thinks he is a really cool guy and they have been having a lot of fun together,” the source shares. “She has been so supportive of his career and has been loving going to the games and cheering him on.”

McRae, 22, and the New Jersey Devils star were first romantically linked in December 2025, when they were seen together in New York City after she attended one of his games.
“They are making it work during this busy season, but hope to have more time together next month when his season ends,” the insider tells Us, adding, “Tate thinks he’s really sweet and it’s going well so far.”
Hughes, of course, etched his name into American hockey lore when he scored the overtime game-winning goal in Team USA’s gold medal game against Canada last month.
The Devils’ regular season schedule ends in mid-April. They currently sit second-to-last in the Eastern Conference, unlikely to make the playoffs.
Meanwhile, McRae’s Miss Possessive Tour wrapped up in November 2025.
Hughes has been in the spotlight since scoring the golden goal at the Olympics, which has included appearances on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“The best couple weeks of my life and just a lot of fun celebrating with the guys and enjoying it,” Hughes told reporters on Tuesday, March 3. “Now, after all this, it’s in the rearview mirror for a little bit. We’ll pull it out back in the summer. But yeah, it’s back to Devils and locking back in here and trying to win some games.”
Hughes’ Olympic journey has not been without controversy.
After defeating Canada in the gold medal game, Hughes and his Team USA teammates were criticized for laughing at President Donald Trump saying he would “probably be impeached” if he didn’t also invite the women’s hockey team to the White House.
“You’re in the moment, the president calls,” Hughes told reporters about the incident. “We’re blaring the music and then they pause the music and then the president calls. I don’t think … obviously, it is what it is now.”

He added, “We have so much respect for the women’s team. They have so much respect for us. We’re all just proud Americans. We’re happy that we both swept the Olympics.”
Hughes was also on the receiving end of some backlash for visiting with Trump, 79, at the White House and attending his State of the Union address on February 24.
“You’ve got to remember, we’re just hockey players,” Hughes told reporters the day after meeting with the president. “We did our job. We went over to the Olympics to win a gold medal and that’s what we did. I’ve had the best time of my life celebrating with my teammates that we accomplished our goal.”
He added, “I’m a hockey player. We’re so proud to be back in the U.S. and celebrating our gold medal and to do it with our teammates, that’s the best part.”
