As a young man born and raised in Maine, I’ve always seen our state as something to be cherished and protected. I love this land, and I worry that we’ve lost track of something important: our forests.

Our current governor vetoed LD 125 in 2021, a bipartisan bill introduced by former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson. This bill would have banned aerial dispersal of synthetic herbicides like glyphosate over our forests. Maine’s forests are not just a part of our heritage, they’re an important asset.

Troy is a fifth generation logger from up north who used to work 80-hour weeks in the woods, operating machines and logging. During his time in the Maine Senate he protected Maine logging jobs, advocated for loggers’ rights and union protections, filed complaints for Maine worker protections, and fought to keep Maine forests owned by Mainers.

Our forests deserve long-term, sustainable stewardship that respects the land itself and the people who depend on it. I believe Troy is the man for the job, and his expertise goes beyond just our forests.

Troy’s record shows he puts Maine workers and communities first. I immediately identified with Troy because he always looks out for the working people. I urge all voters to consider casting a vote for Troy in the upcoming primary, even unaffiliated voters can participate!
