A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a fatal stabbing at a shopping centre, police have said.

Officers were called to reports of a stabbing at Centre:MK in Milton Keynes, at around 5.10pm on Saturday, Thames Valley Police (TVP) said.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 52-year-old male victim died at the scene, the force said in a statement on Sunday.

The suspect, a 50-year-old man from Towcester, remains in police custody.

The coroner has also been informed, but the victim has not yet been formally identified.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers, TVP added.

Centre:MK said the complex would be closed on Sunday.

“A scene will remain in place while officers carry out enquiries.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of all those affected. We appreciate your patience and understanding at this time,” it said in a statement.

Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie, local commander for Milton Keynes, said detectives aren’t looking for anyone else and there was “no known threat to the wider public”.

Appealing to the public for help, Ms Baillie warned of an increased police presence in the area while investigations continue.
