After watching President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, I have some concerns about our government. I thought that we elected our senators and representatives to work for us and not necessarily for themselves just to get rich. To watch the Democratic side of the audience holler and bicker with the president’s speech, was embarrassing to me.

I am also appalled that the ones who attended the speech in person sat on their duffs and did not acknowledge anything the president said about his accomplishments. It just goes to show me the deep divide that we have in our country today.

To cause a partial government shutdown because you apparently just hate the current administration is in my opinion ridiculous.

Additionally, I am also totally embarrassed that Sen. Angus King chose not to attend the State of the Union address. The least he could have done was show up and sit on his butt like the Democrats did.

If the government is shut down, the first people to not get paid should be our representatives. I believe that would lead to quicker resolutions and better results instead of threatening everyone with frequent shutdowns. They hold that over our heads rather than us holding it over their heads.

I also believe that we should have term limits, which could stop making millionaires out of our representatives.
