PORTLAND — The MEMIC Group, the third-largest multi-state workers’ compensation specialist in the United States, has promoted Nick Burke to executive underwriter.
Burke joined MEMIC in 2004 as a claims compensation associate, later shifting his focus to underwriting the following year. He continued to advance into senior underwriting roles, earning promotions to senior underwriter in 2012 and senior large account underwriter in 2019, culminating in his recent promotion to executive underwriter.
“Nick’s promotion exemplifies his value to the Underwriting Department, as he handles our most complex and intricate accounts,” said Greg Jamison, senior vice president of underwriting. “Nick has committed to the underwriting profession through education, community involvement, and teamwork. His knowledge and experience often serve as an example to his peers and contemporaries alike.”
Burke earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Southern New Hampshire University and a master’s degree in insurance management from Boston University. He also holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter and Workers’ Compensation Professional designations and is pursuing the Associate in Reinsurance designation through The Institutes.
“MEMIC’s mission resonates deeply with my own professional values — being conscientious in our work, collaborative in our approach, and always focused on improving outcomes for workers and employers,” said Burke. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue advancing at an organization that values expertise, transparency, and strong partnerships.”
Outside of work, Burke is dedicated to giving back to his Maine community. He volunteers with the Special Olympics, raises funds for the Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing and has previously served on the board of the Maine CPCU Chapter.
