Dawson’s Creek star Meredith Monroe has shared a touching tribute to her late costar, James Van Der Beek, after his death.
Monroe, who played Andie McPhee on the series from 1998 to 2003, shared a heartfelt post via Instagram on Thursday, February 26.
“It’s been 2 weeks & I still don’t know what to say?? Nothing seems right?? James, you, Kimberly, your children & families have been constantly in my thoughts, my prayers & on my heart,” Monroe, 56, wrote.
Monroe added that she had been “flooded with fond memories” of her friendship with Van Der Beek over the years since news of his death broke on February 11. Van Der Beek had been battling colorectal cancer and died at the age of 48.

Reflecting on these memories, she went on to address Van Der Beek directly in the caption as she listed the main thoughts she had after contemplating their time together.
“Your legacy is your light. Whether 1 on 1, at a party, an event, or in your art you’ve always shared your light through: your humor & laughter, your curiosity, time & energy both in others & the world around you,” she wrote, adding, “Your ability to be completely present & make others feel welcome & comfortable, your sincerity, friendship, compassion & love.”
Monroe concluded the post, “James may the love & community that your light has built worldwide be reflected back infinitely upon your beautiful wife Kimberly, your amazing children & your family. God gained an angel far too soon. Rest in peace 🤍.”
A carousel of throwback photos of Van Der Beek and Monroe on the show as well as in real life accompanied the tribute.

Dawson’s Creek actresses Katie Holmes and Busy Philipps liked the post soon after it was shared.
Holmes, 47, who played one of Van Der Beek’s main love interests on the show, previously mourned the actor via a handwritten letter shared via her Instagram on February 17.
“James, thank you. To share space with your imagination is sacred — breathing the same air in the land of make-believe and trusting that each other’s hearts are safe in their expression,” she wrote at the time.
