Just days following Team USA’s dual goal medals in Men’s and Women’s Hockey, one of the members of the Men’s Hockey team speaks out on a much talked about moment following the game.
President Donald Trump congratulated the team on winning the gold medal, inviting them to the White House, but joked that he would need to invite the women as well, or he would be impeached.
In the moment, members of the team laughed along, but that was met with criticism, to the point that the Women’s Team, who also won gold beating Canada, declined going to the White House.
On Wednesday, Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who played three seasons for the UMaine Black Bears, expressed regret for the moment, and discussed his support for the Team USA Women’s Hockey Team.
“We should’ve reacted differently,” Swayman said. “We know that we are so excited for the women’s team. We have so much respect for the women’s team. To share that gold medal with them is something we’re forever grateful for. Now that we’re home, we get to share that together forever and see the incredible support that we have from the USA and share in this incredible gold medal.”
Swayman, who started one game for Team USA during the 2026 Winter Olympics is a past winner of the Jennings Trophy in 2023, the award given to the best goalie with the highest save percentage at the end of the season.
The Boston Bruins return to action on Thursday when they host the Columbus Blue Jacket at 7 p.m. ET.
