Elsie Hewitt put a lot of thought into her decision not to breastfeed her and Pete Davidson’s daughter, Scottie.
“When people asked whether I planned to breastfeed, my thought process was layered,” the model, 29, wrote in an essay for Elle published on Wednesday, February 25. “The most important thing to me was doing what is best for my baby. I will always do what is best for her.”
Hewitt added that she weighed the benefits and cons of both breastfeeding and formula. She shared that breastfeeding has been considered “the gold standard” as it “offers antibodies, unmatched nutrition and powerful bonding,” but is also a “physical” process for a person going through postpartum recovery.
Hewitt acknowledged that formula is “a safe alternative,” and noted that there is a preconceived notion that it’s a solution someone turns to “if something goes wrong.”

“I was aware, even before pregnancy, of the quiet shame attached to formula feeding,” she continued. “It took some grappling with that shame, and some exploring of the moral hierarchy around breastfeeding, to affirm that what was best for me and what was best for my baby did not exist on different levels or rankings — they were one and the same.”
Hewitt shared that her decision to bypass breastfeeding was influenced by her “mental health” and “recovery.”
“There is inherent guilt in choosing not to breastfeed. My body is biologically programmed to nourish my baby, and opting out of that can feel like going against something ancient, instinctual, and profoundly beautiful,” she penned. “That guilt doesn’t disappear simply because formula is safe, healthy, and nutritionally complete. I still have to remind myself — and sometimes literally ask to be told — that being mentally and emotionally OK is not separate from being a good mother.”
Hewitt added that Davidson, 32, her family and medical team didn’t try to sway her decision.
“I feel fortunate not to have felt pressure to breastfeed from the people in my life. My partner didn’t push me in either direction,” she recalled. “My mother, who breastfed my sisters and me and was proud of that, made a point to tell me, simply, that the decision was entirely mine. She never said anything else, and her restraint meant a great deal to me. The OB-GYN and hospital staff didn’t try to persuade me either.”

Davidson and Hewitt welcomed Scottie in December 2025.
“Our perfect angel girl arrived 12/12/2025 Scottie Rose Hewitt Davidson ♥️,” Hewitt wrote via Instagram. “My best work yet, i am absolutely overflowing with love and gratitude and disbelief.”
The following month, Hewitt exclusively opened up to Us Weekly about her and Davidson’s thoughts about expanding their family in the future.
“I didn’t think I would already think about having another one,” she told Us in January. “The idea of that sounds absolutely insane right now. … The process of giving birth is so insane, but so empowering once it happens. Just having this little thing, I really can’t explain how incredible the whole thing is.”
