Netflix is trying its hand at recreating Jane Austen‘s iconic novel Pride and Prejudice — but how does their cast compare to the beloved 2005 film adaptation?
Austen’s 1813 novel of the same name follows Elizabeth Bennet as she deals with pressure to get married so that she and her four sisters don’t end up destitute. Her older sister, Jane, eventually finds a match with Mr. Bingley, while Elizabeth is drawn to his initially haughty friend Mr. Darcy.
There have been many adaptations of Pride and Prejudice over the years, but director Joe Wright’s 2005 iteration has been one of the most popular, with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen‘s respective performances as Elizabeth and Darcy standing the test of time.
In June 2025, Netflix unveiled their cast for their limited series, featuring Emma Corrin as Elizabeth and Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy. The first teaser offered more of a glimpse at how Netflix’s version compares to the 2005 adaptation.
“Once in a generation, a group of people get to retell this wonderful story and I feel very lucky that I get to be a part of it,” executive producer Dolly Alderton said in a February 2026 statement. “Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is the blueprint for romantic comedy — it has been a joy to delve back into its pages to find both familiar and fresh ways of bringing this beloved book to life.”
The statement continued: “With Euros Lyn directing our stellar cast, I am so excited to reintroduce these hilarious and complicated characters to those who count Pride and Prejudice as their favorite book, and those who are yet to meet their Lizzie and Mr Darcy.”
According to a press release, Pride and Prejudice will be a six-part limited series described as a “faithful, classic adaptation” of Austen’s novel. Corrin will star as Elizabeth, while Lowden is portraying Mr. Darcy. Olivia Colman is bringing Elizabeth’s mother, Mrs. Bennet, to life and Freya Mavor stars as her older sister, Jane.
Rounding out the cast is Rufus Sewell is Lizzie’s dad, Mr. Bennet, Jamie Demetriou as the Bennets’ cousin Mr. Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr. Bingley, Louis Partridge as Darcy’s former pal Mr. Wickham, Siena Kelly as Bingley’s sister Caroline and Fiona Shaw as Darcy’s aunt Lady Catherine de Bourgh. The younger Bennet sisters will be played by Rhea Norwood (Lydia), Hopey Parish (Mary) and Hollie Avery (Kitty), with the latter two making their screen debuts.
