Andy Austin has been selected a 2026 Maine Terrific Ten Broadcaster in honor of his community service by Spirit of America Foundation’s Maine Chapter.
Austin is director of content, equity partner and morning host at radio station WWSF (99.3 FM) in Sanford, where he’s known as the “Voice of Seacoast Oldies.”
He was a struggling Sanford student, left the area after graduation, became successful and then returned to his hometown with determination to pay forward the opportunities he received to get into broadcasting through a local technology program and also to help the community in other ways.
Austin mentors Sanford Regional Technical Centers Media Technology Program students, bringing them into his Seacoast Oldies studio to learn technical and performance aspects of broadcasting.
He partners with the Sanford School Department, helping with initiatives to provide food, winter gear and school supplies to families in need. Through his role with the station Austin creates opportunities for youths and community engagement.
In addition to what he does for the Sanford area, Austin has been a key participant in a statewide Radiothon for Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital — his efforts in a recent year helped raise over $450,000 for patient care, research and medical equipment.
Austin also plays a key role in WWSF’s “Season of Wishes” Campaign, which recently raised over $108,000 for Make-A-Wish Maine to help children with critical illness.
Maine Spirit of America is a chapter of Spirit of America Foundation, an organization promoting community service.
