Winter weather is causing a scheduling change in the Maine high school basketball tournament.

The six regional finals scheduled for Friday are being moved a few hours earlier in the day due to the weather forecast, which is predicting snow Friday night into Saturday morning.

The Maine Principals’ Association, which oversees high school sports in Maine, announced the scheduling change in a Thursday afternoon statement.

“Due to the impending weather forecast, the basketball tournament schedules for the Regional Basketball Championships presented by Hammond Lumber Company have been revised for games scheduled on Friday, Feb. 20,” the MPA statement said.

In Bangor, that means the Class B North girls title game has been moved from 8:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. That game features Lawrence of Fairfield against Gardiner. The boys Class B North championship will now be played at 6:45 p.m on Friday instead of 7 p.m. The boys B North game is between Gardiner and Cony of Augusta.

In Augusta, the Class A North girls championship between Hampden Academy and Mt. Ararat of Topsham is now taking place at 5 p.m. instead of 7 p.m. on Friday. And the Class A boys game will now be at 6:45 p.m. instead of 8:30 p.m.
