In the politically charged environment we find ourselves in, it seems nearly impossible for our elected leaders to work together, across party lines, to achieve good work for the American public.

Though I don’t always agree with Sen. Susan Collins’ decisions, she showed real leadership in her capacity as chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee by her commitment to advance bipartisan and bicameral budget bills. As a public health professional, I want to especially thank her for the Labor, Health and Human Services and Education and Related Agencies Appropriations bill, which provides funding for cancer prevention, education and environmental health.

Her focus on working with leaders across the aisle is a reminder to us all to unify and prioritize Maine and our country’s health and safety above our differences. Thank you, Sen. Collins.
