Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is being accused of domestic abuse by his ex-girlfriend Dacoda Jones in a new lawsuit, per multiple news outlets.
ESPN and People report that Jones, with whom Rice, 25, shares two sons, filed suit in Dallas County District Court on Monday, February 16, alleging that she was “physically assaulted by Defendant Rashee Rice at their homes located in Victory Park, Texas, and Lee’s Summit, Missouri” over an 18-month period between December 2023 and July 2025.
Jones is seeking more than $1 million, per the ESPN report.
“Rice has grabbed, choked, strangled, pushed, thrown, scratched, hit and headbutted Ms. Jones, as well as hit her with inanimate objects,” the suit alleges, ESPN reported on Wednesday, February 18.
According to People, the lawsuit further claims Rice “engaged in other violent and abusive behaviors towards Ms. Jones, including throwing objects, destroying property, punching walls and breaking furniture, as well as locking her out in the middle of the night,” noting that “many of these behaviors occurred while Ms. Jones was pregnant.”
“The club is aware [of the lawsuit] and remains in communication with the National Football League,” a representative for the Kansas City Chiefs told ESPN on Wednesday.
Rice’s attorney Sean Lindsey said in a statement to the outlet, “On October 9th, 2025, well after the parties’ relationship had ended, Ms. Jones stated under penalty of perjury in a sworn Affidavit for Non-Prosecution that ‘Mr. Rice and I had a verbal argument, but he did not punch me.’ We will allow the legal process to run its course and have no further comment at this time.”
Us Weekly has reached out to the Chiefs and Rice’s agents for comment.

The reported lawsuit comes nearly two months after Jones alluded to domestic violence by a former partner in a social media post on January 7, though she did not name the alleged perpetrator.
At the time, Jones shared a now-deleted Instagram post featuring graphic photos of bruises to her torso and damage to her home. She said she had dealt with alleged abuse “for years.”
“The club is aware of the allegations on social media and is in communication with the National Football League. We have no further comment at this time,” the Chiefs told ESPN in January.
Rice previously made headlines in March 2024 following his involvement in a car accident that left multiple people injured. In July 2025, Rice was sentenced to five years’ probation and 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to third-degree felony charges of collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury. Prosecutors said Rice drove 119 miles per hour on a Dallas highway, resulting in a multi-car crash.

“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas,” Rice said in a July 2025 statement through his attorney. “There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole.”
He added, “I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
In August 2025, Rice was suspended for the first six games of the 2025 NFL season. He returned to the gridiron for the Chiefs’ victory over the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2025.
