The Mattanawcook Academy girls basketball team of Lincoln have been perfect in Class C North so far this season, and they added another win to their record in a Wednesday night tournament game against Orono.
Having a 1,000-point career scorer is always a luxury for a Maine basketball team, but the Lynx aren’t just any team. They have two seniors who have hit the 1,000-point mark in Addison Cyr and Megan House.
Cyr crossed the 1,000-point threshold last year as a junior, and House joined the club earlier this season. The Bangor Daily News caught up with them together after the 64-30 win over Orono.
“It’s been super amazing,” Cyr said. “I did it last year and then getting to watch her do it this year, it’s just been special to be on both sides of it.”
Mattanawcook is now 19-0 this year after the win in the Class C North quarterfinals.
“Our team celebrates everyone equally, but I think that sharing this accomplishment together has been such a big thing because we’ve [been] playing for so long” House added.
The BDN also asked the seniors what they find most impressive about each other’s ability on the court.
“She’s so good finishing at the rim,” House said about Cyr. “It’s crazy. Sometimes she shocks me.”
Cyr was similarly complimentary of House.
“Definitely just getting to the rim,” Cyr said about House. “Sometimes there’s a girl right on her, and somehow she finds a way to get around them and get a shot up.”
