The man accused of shooting three Central Maine Power substations is being held on $250,000 bail.
Thomas Welch, 54, appeared in court Tuesday in Augusta. He faces charges of criminal mischief and aggravated reckless conduct.
He allegedly shot at substations in Windsor, Winslow and Augusta overnight Saturday into Sunday.
No one was hurt, but some lost power for a short time.
The state said the damage to the substations in Windsor and Augusta is around $1 million apiece.
The state asked for $250,000 cash bail, outlining the seriousness of the shootings and Welch’s criminal past.
The judge agreed to that bail request.
During a search warrant, police officers found thousands of rounds of ammo, body armor, tactical helmets, flex cuffs and numerous firearms, according to prosecutors.
Investigators found numerous shell casings at the scenes of the shootings, prosecutors said.
Welch is a business owner in Fairfield, and his employees and family don’t know what led to the shootings.
Welch is due in court again in June.
