The series finale of Tell Me Lies included several shocking plot twists, major reveals and an update on where each toxic couple stands now — but did the show end on a satisfying note?
Hulu’s hit series wrapped up on Tuesday, February 17, with Bree (Cat Missal) and Evan’s (Branden Cook) nuptials being the scene for one final, chaotic breakdown. But first, the show took Us back to the past moment when Cat found out that Evan cheated on her with Lucy (Grace Van Patten).
Cat got advice from friend Alex (Costa D’Angelo) about not trusting anyone around her. Instead, Cat played the long game by staying with Evan while knowing he was more in love with her than she was with him. She ended her secret romance with Wrigley (Spencer House) — at least for now — and was instrumental in releasing the tape where Lucy admitted to lying about her sexual assault getting leaked.
As a result, Lucy got expelled from Baird College, which confirmed the end of the past timeline. It was also wrapped up with Stephen’s (Jackson White) time at Baird coming to an end, but instead of him heading to Yale, his offer was rescinded. It turned out that Wrigley was the hero we needed all along, because once he caught wind of Stephen leaking Diana’s (Alicia Crowder) nudes, he took matters into his own hands.

The present timeline, meanwhile, was a little more complicated when it came to tying up loose ends. Wrigley and Bree nearly had sex at her wedding — only for her to return to her now-husband, Evan. Luckily, Stephen was on hand to wreak some havoc, which he did with a speech that exposed all of his “friends” and their secrets.
After Evan lost it on Wrigley, his future with Bree was left unclear. Diana and Pippa (Sonia Mena) said what all of Us were thinking when they made a beeline for the exit. Lucy, however, fell back into the toxic cycle by leaving the wedding with Stephen. Their little romantic getaway didn’t last long though, because after they stopped at a gas station, Stephen left Lucy stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer, who confirmed on Monday, February 16, that the hit Hulu series would be concluding, previously spoke to Us Weekly about the show’s eventual series finale.
“In terms of future seasons, it’s impossible to really know at this point,” Oppenheimer exclusively told Us in January when asked whether the show could come back for more episodes. “I certainly had always thought this was always more or less the ending I’d had in mind.”
Oppenheimer didn’t rule out a return, adding, “But you never know what’s going to happen in the future. But there’s definitely a sense where I didn’t want to leave anything hanging this season. Basically, I wanted to satisfy everyone.”

Lucy

The past caught up with Lucy after Bree quietly got her revenge. Lucy’s confession was ultimately leaked not by Stephen but by Bree, which led to Lucy being expelled from school. In the years leading up to Bree’s wedding, Lucy had no idea that Bree was responsible. At the event itself, Lucy got back together with Stephen, but that was short-lived, and the last shot showed Lucy laughing to herself after yet again coming to terms with her bad decisions.
Stephen

In the past, Stephen faced the consequences of his actions when his offer from Yale was taken back. He got his revenge in the present day by putting everyone’s dirty laundry on blast in a scene that will likely go down in TV history.
He didn’t stop there, leaving the wedding with Lucy … only to then leave her stranded at a random gas station.
Bree

The past timeline showed Bree making the decision to leak Lucy’s confession, keep the truth of Evan’s infidelity to herself and cut ties with Wrigley as a form of self-preservation. In the present, Bree nearly slept with Wrigley at her wedding and seemingly will get back together with him once she likely gets her marriage to Evan annulled.
Wrigley

In the past, Wrigley had to watch Bree get back together with Evan after she found out he hooked up with Pippa. The miscommunication ultimately explained their distance leading up to Bree’s wedding, which is where the almost-exes reconnected and nearly had sex without Evan’s knowledge.
The present timeline ended with Wrigley and Bree sharing a knowing look as chaos ensued at her wedding — a hint that they could start dating in the near future.
Pippa

The college Pippa was able to come clean to Wrigley about her infidelity — with viewers seeing how the duo remained friends all these years. She presumably remained at Baird with Bree to finish out their final year without Lucy.
In the present, Pippa finally listened to Diana and left her toxic friend group … for now.

Evan

In the past, Evan had to answer for cheating on Bree with Lucy. But instead of her punishing Evan, Bree told him not to tell anyone she knew, and they remained a couple up until their wedding day. The revelation that Bree and Wrigley had feelings for each other ultimately blew up the nuptials, with the no-longer-happy couple presumably calling it quits shortly after the events of the finale.
Diana

In the past timeline, Diana considered not attending Yale as a way to protect herself from Stephen’s toxicity. With a little help from Wrigley — which Diana didn’t know about — Stephen’s offer from Yale was rescinded.
The present timeline showed Diana telling Pippa they needed to get out once things took a messy turn at Evan and Bree’s wedding.
Oliver

Bree’s former boyfriend, a.k.a. a professor at the college (Tom Ellis), was only seen in the past when he, his wife and Bree’s mother cornered her. Oliver specifically tried to gaslight Bree into thinking she was wrong about him grooming girls at the school.
Alex

The viewers didn’t receive a big update on Alex’s future. His past, however, showed him supporting Bree and offering her advice about putting herself first in a toxic friend group. He also cut ties with Lucy after revealing how harmful it was for him — a survivor of sexual abuse — to hear that she lied about being assaulted.
