The Katahdin Cougars from Stacyville are heading to the girls Class S North championship game, and their senior captain played a sizable role in getting them there.
Senior co-captain Emily McNally leaned into her leadership role and paced the No. 2 Cougars with 17 points in their 46-39 win over No. 3 Jonesport-Beals.
“I think what won us the game was really coming together as a team, as all-in-one,” McNally said after the win. “That’s something Katahdin has done very well this year.”
McNally led all scorers in the game. Teammate Dakota Stevens added 10 points, and Reagan Robinson led the way for Jonesport-Beals with 14.
The Cougars were able to bottle up Jonesport-Beals 1,000-point scorer Mia Mills with relentless team defense. McNally said teamwork was key in that effort.
“We came into the game knowing that she was a great player, and we just were sure to be there on backup,” McNally said.
