A man from Ohio has been charged in connection with the murders of his ex-girlfriend and a U.S. soldier in North Carolina.

The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office said it was contacted by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday, February 14, regarding a report of a double homicide in Vass, North Carolina, according to a press release shared via Facebook.

Deputies with the Moore County Sheriff’s Office first responded to a report of a shooting inside of a home. Once they arrived at the scene, authorities found the bodies of 28-year-old Matthew Wade and 21-year-old Kateryna Tovmash.

Following the discovery, the Moore County Sheriff’s Office named Caleb Fosnaugh a suspect in the case, alleging he traveled to North Carolina to carry out the killings. The department then contacted the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office to help find and capture Fosnaugh, 25.

Investigators looked into the case, and they grew to believe that Fosnaugh previously dated Tovmash in Ohio, according to a press release shared by the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, the agency said that Wade was a U.S. soldier who was stationed about 25 miles southeast of Vass at Fort Bragg. It is not currently clear how Wade and Tovmash knew each other.

No details have been shared about Fosnaugh and Tovmash’s relationship, including how long they dated, when they broke up or if they were in touch following their split.

Coshocton County Sheriff Christopher Walters said that his agency was advised that Fosnaugh was driving a white 2018 Ford Mustang, and it was suspected that he was traveling back to Ohio, according to the department’s release.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers finally found Fosnaugh driving toward Coshocton County around 2:18 p.m. on February 14. Fosnaugh was pulled over by troopers and Coshocton County deputies in Linton Township, and he was then taken into custody.

Fosnaugh was booked into the Coshocton County Justice Center, according to online records viewed by Us Weekly. He has since been charged with two counts of murder and breaking and entering.

The press release also stated that his case will be handled in Moore County. It is not currently clear if Fosnaugh has entered a plea or retained legal representation following his arrest.

The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment, while the Moore County Sheriff’s Office said they had no further updates to share.

The Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office said that they worked with the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio State Highway Patrol Aviation and Princes Wrecker Service in order to make the arrest.

“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office asks the community to keep the families and loved ones of Kateryna Tovmash and Matthew Wade in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” the department said in its own press release.

After the murders were committed, Tovmash’s friend, Kirill Pryshchepchuk, spoke to WBNS and explained that they grew up together in Ukraine before they moved to the United States.

“My best friend was an immigrant, who was a refugee from Ukraine,” Pryshchepchuk told the outlet. “She came here because of the war. To hide from death and the danger. She came here with her family. This is not normal.”
