Quinn Pelletier was the first-ever eighth grader to be named a Bangor Daily News All-Tournament Team MVP a season ago.
And now in his freshman year, Pelletier is picking up where he left off for the Madawaska Owls.
The freshman helped his team start this year’s Class D North postseason tournament in Bangor with a win over Penobscot Valley. And his size and explosiveness gave his team a boost at a pivotal time on Saturday when he provided a powerful dunk late in the first half.

Pelletier was asked about that dunk after the win.
“It got me pumped up, got our team pumped up,” he said.
Madawaska head coach Shawn Pelletier, the freshman’s father, said the play helped energize the Owls.
“It’s definitely a great way to end the half, a little bit of a positive note. It just kind of gets our energy up,” Shawn Pelletier said. “I think we were up by five or six or so, and we kind of teetered back and forth between that. So that dunk kind of electrified us, because we were only up two at that point. So it got us up to four, got us some momentum coming out of half time.”
Quinn Pelletier led all scorers with 15 points and also had a game-high 5 assists. He and his teammates will be looking to avenge a loss in the Class C regional final a year ago.
“It feels good. I’ve been waiting for it since last year, since we lost,” Pelletier added after Saturday’s victory. “We have a good team again, and I’m hoping to make a big run this year.”
