High temperatures will climb above freezing through Valentines Day weekend

The forecasted temperatures for the Valentines Day weekend heading into President’s Day are climbing.

Looking ahead through the next few days, the Bangor area can expect to see daytime temperatures in the low to mid 30s Saturday and Sunday, while Monday could see a daytime high in the 40s.

The climbing temperatures coincide with a later sunset, with the sun dipping below the horizon by 5 p.m. Tuesday evening, while the sun will rise before 6:30 a.m. next Thursday morning, according to National Weather Service calculations. That means that most of Maine could see around 10 ½ hours of sunlight throughout the day next Thursday.

Despite warming temperatures, snow showers are possible on Saturday, especially through the central highlands and to the north, according to forecasters with the Caribou office of the NWS. Heavier snow showers could limit visibility, and some areas may see around an inch of precipitation accumulate through midday.

South central Maine, western regions and communities along the coast can also expect daytime temperatures to climb into the 30s next week, with potential for daytime highs in the mid 40s by midweek.

The probability of significant snow accumulations is low through southern regions this weekend, although a storm system could move through Maine midweek. Forecasts at this time are unsure of the potential storm track and precipitation.
