Gross Confection Bar has announced on social media that it will shut down its nighttime business as a cocktail and plated dessert bar. The last night for Gross, which is housed in a roomy underground space on Exchange Street, will be Saturday.
The place opened in early 2019, serving cocktails as well as multi-course, multi-component, highly evolved desserts, items like brown butter–yogurt panna cotta and grapefruit-Campari cake.
The bakery part of the business, however, is to expand, pastry chef/proprietor Brant Dadaleares announced at the same time. Though it had been open only on weekends, starting on February 19, it will be open Thursdays through Sundays and will expand its offerings as well.
The Press Herald gave the bar/dessert restaurant an excellent review in 2019.
“This decision wasn’t easy,” Dadaleares wrote in his online announcement. “A lot of care, thought, and hard conversations went into choosing the path that’s right for our business, our staff, and our future.”
He could not be immediately reached for more details on his decision to end nighttime service.
