Another tournament season arrived, and the Bangor Daily News once again has your one-stop resource to help navigate all the exciting action.
Welcome to our guide to the 2026 Maine high school basketball tournament, where you can stay up on the schedules, scores, favored teams, top performers, highlights and brackets.
This year’s tourney looks a little bit different, with Class S action already underway for some of the state’s smaller schools. The four larger classes will join the fray on Friday, Feb. 13 as the tournament kicks into high gear.
The games will once again be played in Bangor, Augusta and Portland. For the next week in particular, the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Augusta Civic Center, and Portland Expo and Cross Insurance Arena will be the center of the Maine sports universe.
The tournament will wrap up with state championship games on Friday, Feb. 27 Saturday, Feb. 28.
The BDN sports team will be on hand once again to cover the games, moments, players and communities that make tournament time so special. You can keep up with that coverage on the BDN site, or on social media. We’ll be looking for the performances that change games, the inspiring plays that bring fans to their feet and the team efforts that make communities proud.
The BDN 2026 Maine High School Basketball Tournament page will be a hub for schedules, scores, game recaps, brackets, photos and more. We’re here to help navigate and celebrate another exciting, action-packed tourney season.
How can I find out who is playing?
The BDN site will have both boys and girls brackets for each region and class. You can follow along with our tournament brackets to see which teams still have a shot at a state championship.
Where can I find the schedule?
You can find the schedule for each day of the Maine high school basketball tournament on our schedule and scores page. This page will be updated daily with the full schedule, including which teams are competing, where the game is being held and what time the contest is scheduled to start.
What’s the best way to find a game score?
That schedule and scores page will be updated with the final score following each game. The brackets will be updated throughout the tournament as well. You can also follow the Bangor Daily News on Facebook to find our latest game coverage.
Where can I watch the games online?
There will once again be several ways to watch the tournament online — and those options vary depending on the round.
Like last year, the initial quarterfinal round at the main venues will be broadcast live by the National Federation of State High School Associations Network. The subsequent regional semifinals and finals will be livestreamed by WHOU, and Maine Public will again broadcast the girls and boys state championship games in each of the five
Both the NFHS Network and WHOU require subscriptions. It’s free to watch the 10 championship games on Maine Public. The championship games will be available both on Maine Public’s TV channels and streaming on mainepublic.org.
Who will win?
BDN sports reporters have already offered our thoughts about the teams in the mix to take home their respective North regional titles.
In Class S, we see the Wisdom girls and Jonesport-Beals boys holding true to their top seeds and looming large in the region. They both held serve with wins in the first round.
The Bangor Christian girls look like the clear favorite in Class D North, and a crowded boys field including Machias, Bangor Christian and Madawaska are set to compete in Class D.
The Mattanawcook girls have looked unstoppable so far in Class C North action, and Caribou boys are well-positioned for back-to-back regional titles after dropping down from Class B.
The Class B North teams to beat are the Gardiner girls and Cony boys, while Camden Hills could end up being the Class A basketball capital of Maine with both the boys and girls Windjammers toward the top of the list. But returning champion Mt. Ararat of Topsham has to be considered the favorite in Class A North girls.
We’ve also compiled lists of the top 10 girls and boys players to watch in the North regional games.
