HGTV Pulls ‘Rehab Addict’ After Host Nicole Curtis Says ‘N-Word’ Filming

Episodes of Rehab Addict have been pulled by HGTV the same day they were set to premiere after a video of star Nicole Curtis saying the “n-word” resurfaced.

In the early hours of Wednesday, February 11, RadarOnline released a never-before-seen video of Curtis, 49, working on a renovation project when she accidentally says the racial slur while the cameras were rolling.

“Why? It’s the last one,” Curtis said in the clip as she struggled with part of the project. “Oh, fart n***r.”

The HGTV star immediately realized her unforced error, turning to the camera crew and begging them to delete the footage.

Will ‘Rehab Addict’ Return to HGTV After Being Removed Amid Cancellations?

“What the f*** is that I just said?” Curtis asked, visibly shocked by her language. Someone in the crew can be heard off camera laughing as Curtis asked, “Can you kill that?”

Curtis is seemingly surprised by her own remarks, adding, “F*** my life.”

A source told Radar on Wednesday that Curtis filmed the episode two years ago in Wyoming and it aired — without the racial slur — during season 9 in June 2025.

Us Weekly has reached out to Curtis’ rep for comment.

While Curtis has yet to publicly address the scandal, HGTV has taken steps to remedy the situation, telling Us Weekly on Wednesday that the network was pulling the current season of Rehab Addict, which was slated to drop new episodes today at noon.

“HGTV was recently made aware of an offensive racial comment made during the filming of Rehab Addict. Not only is language like this hurtful and disappointing to our viewers, partners, and employees — it does not align with the values of HGTV,” the network said in a statement. “Accordingly, we have removed the series from all HGTV platforms. We remain dedicated to fostering a culture of respect and inclusion across our content and our workplace.”

Curtis has hosted Rehab Addict since 2010, restoring historic homes in both Detroit and Minneapolis so they aren’t demolished. Over the years, she has expanded the locations she does renovations as well.

What HGTV Stars Said About Surprising — And Controversial — Cancellations

In July 2025, Curtis announced she was pressing pause on the HGTV series — and wouldn’t release the second half of season 9 until that fall. She later revealed that new episodes would drop in February.

“Straight from Detroit — the new episodes drop Wednesday … was told now or never — so you get them now,” Curtis revealed via Instagram on Saturday, February 7. “And can you do me a huge show of support by sharing this. Sending it to friends, tag a friend, a stranger ❤️.”

One day later, the historic preservation expert teased a little more about the new episodes by sharing a cheeky video of herself going back and forth on a moving sidewalk.

HGTV’s Decision to Stop Airing ‘Rehab Addict’ Explained

“I could say more, but I shall say less. Thank you for 15 years of amazing, amazing support!” Curtis wrote via social media on Sunday, February 8. “Your love took me from a struggling mommy working odd jobs in Craigslist to a real estate mogul whose voice (more than face) gets recognized all over the world. God Bless ❤️❤️Set the DVR — stream it — just make sure these old houses are saved.”

In the hours leading up to Rehab Addict’s return on Wednesday, Curtis shared one final preview with her fans.

“Rehab Addict. I’ll go to my last breath being proud that I did this more real, more raw than anyone else. There’s never been 100 people, let alone 25 people, even 10 people labeled production when I’m working,” she wrote via Instagram. “It’s me, it’s my construction guys, on big days (meaning there’s a huge build like roof going on) it’s 2 cameras, but most, it’s one.”

Curtis joked, “It’s never been about how I look (I fix that in post😊😂) it’s always been about the house.”

She recalled, “We had squatters, drugs, human waste, the nastiest you can imagine and we ended up with the beautiful Doris house ❤️❤️❤️❤️Proving again — flippers flip — Nicole Curtis (that’s me) and team restore history❤️❤️❤️.”
