Wednesday’s winter storm will make for a tricky evening commute for Mainers.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the midcoast up to Greater Bangor and Aroostook through 7 p.m., while Hancock and Washington counties are under a winter storm warning until 10 p.m.
Snow began falling overnight, and it’s expected to continue until this evening. But snow will keep flying Down East into the night before it tapers off.
“Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening commute,” the weather service said in an advisory.
The storm is forecast to drop up to 5 inches of fresh snow over Greater Bangor, according to the weather service station in Caribou.
Accumulation will be greater toward the Down East coast, with 5 inches expected on Mount Desert Island, 7 inches in Machias and 6 inches in Calais.
That will lessen farther to the north, with 4 inches forecast from Houlton to Caribou and just 3 inches in Fort Kent.
In the coming days, Maine will see temperatures begin to rise above freezing.
