Bodybuilder Jayne Trcka’s cause of death has been revealed nearly two months after her death.
Trcka died at age 62 from hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease complicated by a left femoral fracture, according to a San Diego County Medical Examiner report obtained by TMZ on Wednesday, February 11. The report also revealed that chronic alcohol use was a contributing factor in her death, which was labeled an accident.
News broke in December 2025 that Trcka was found unresponsive in her San Diego home. Law enforcement sources told TMZ at the time that Trcka’s friend attempted to call her several times before going to her house. The friend apparently found Trcka and called the authorities, who pronounced her dead on the scene.
Trcka’s son told TMZ at the time that he was not aware that she had any underlying medical issues.

While growing up in Minnesota, Trcka played several sports and trained in gymnastics. When she moved to California in the 1980s, she started weight training, which led to a career as a bodybuilder.
Trcka appeared in several weight-lifting magazines throughout her career, including Flex, MuscleMag International, Women’s Physique World, Iron Man and Fighting Females.
“Bodybuilding wasn’t an instant decision,” she said in a 2004 interview. “It just kind of followed a progression of stages.”
Winning her first bodybuilding competition led to a magazine cover. From there, Trcka continued to compete.
“Placing well and loving competition and performing kept me going,” she said at the time.
In the same interview, Trcka used her platform to share an inspiring message to other potential female bodybuilders.
“If being a champion bodybuilder is your dream, then go for it and pursue it,” she said. “Don’t let anyone talk you out of it. Though female bodybuilding has definitely decreased in popularity since the fitness [world] came around a few years back.”

Sometimes I am amazed at where I am at and how it turned out after taking certain paths,” Trcka said of her career in 2004. “Though I feel I have taken the correct paths, with just some minor stumbling stones along the way … which of course were challenging and made me a stronger person today.”
