Retired figure skater Tara Lipinski has a message for those who have an issue with her pulling mom duty during the 2026 Winter Olympics.
“Maybe I don’t want to choose,” Lipinski, 43, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Friday, February 6. “For so long, women weren’t given that option. I want my daughter to see a mother who chases her dreams and shows up fully for her.”
Lipinski included an image of the former Team USA skater carrying her 2-year-old daughter, Georgie, on her shoulders around Milan, Italy.
“I can do both,” Lipinski added of balancing motherhood duties with her work obligations. “In my own way at the same time.”
How ‘The Traitors’ Cast Member Tara Lipinski Pioneered Modern Figure Skating
Lipinski and her husband, Todd Kapostasy, welcomed Georgie via surrogate in fall 2023.
“I dreamt about this for so long,” she told People in October 2023, gushing that her newborn was “so calm and peaceful.”
Lipinski previously navigated fertility struggles and multiple miscarriages before welcoming Georgie.
“It was just so surreal. It couldn’t have been happening to us like we don’t get this news, this doesn’t happen to us,” she said on her “Unexpecting” podcast of finding out that her gestational carrier was pregnant. “I almost didn’t believe it. I was just sobbing. But like, that ugly sobbing of just, like, years of all of this trauma … pouring out of my eyes.”

She added at the time, “I would’ve never guessed the amount of failures we would’ve had, the amount of loss, all the obstacles. It almost felt like a cruel joke. I really hope that through telling our story, we make other couples feel less alone if they’re on a similar journey.”
The gold medalist traveled to Italy for the 2026 Winter Olympics, providing commentary and analysis on the figure skating competition alongside fellow former ice skater Johnny Weir.
“Figure skating isn’t known as the most hugs and kisses, warm and fuzzy sport,” Weir, 41, exclusively revealed in the latest Us Weekly cover story. “But we all appreciate how small and niche and special this family is. As the older generation watching the younger generation of skaters, we want the best for them because we know exactly how it feels to be in their shoes.”

As for Lipinski, she acknowledged to Us that the Games deliver a sense of “magic.”
“You hear the music, you see the rings, there’s this magic to it,” she told Us. “I think that’s why the whole world loves this event. It’s one of these things where you realize that this group of athletes has sacrificed their whole life. They’re building to this one moment in time. It’s four minutes on the ice that could change their entire life.”
The Traitors season 4 star continued, “It’s everything you could want. The pressure, the suspense, the glitz, the glamour.”

Lipinski and Weir began their NBC Sports duties on Friday, recapping the first events in the figure skating team competition.
“Opening day, opening fits 💄💐,” Lipinski wrote via Instagram, showing off her halter-neck floral minidress with a burgundy bubble skirt.
Weir, for his part, opted for a red sheer top with leather sleeves that he said was inspired by Game of Thrones.
