Halle Berry is getting married!
During a Thursday, February 5, appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Oscar winner confirmed that she and boyfriend Van Hunt are engaged, clearing up speculation that she turned down his marriage proposal.
Berry, 59, said, “There’s some confusion that he asked to marry me and I said no. I did not say no. We just don’t have a date. But of course I said yes, I would marry him!”
“He did put a little ring on it,” she added, flashing her diamond engagement ring to host Jimmy Fallon.

A profile of Berry published by The Cut on Monday, February 2, noted that Hunt, 55, had proposed to Berry in June 2025. “I haven’t said ‘yes.’ I don’t think we need to be married to have a meaningful relationship,” she told the outlet. “I don’t know if we will ever get married,” she added, citing “health reasons” and the legal right to make medical decisions as a potential reason why she might get married.
Berry has been dating the singer and songwriter since 2020. She was previously married to baseball player David Justice from 1993 to 1997, singer Eric Benét from 2001 to 2005 and French actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2016. Berry and Martinez share a son, Maceo-Robert, 12. Berry is also mom to daughter Nahla, 17, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry.
“After my third divorce, people started to say, ‘What’s wrong with her? She’s crazy. She can’t keep a man,’” the Crime 101 star told The Cut. “And I would always argue, ‘Who says I want to keep a man if he’s not the right man?’”
“I pretty much stopped doing interviews for a decade because I got tired of the same old story,” she said. “It was always: ‘Poor Halle — Unlucky in Love Again.’” Berry also shared some proposed headlines of her own, including “Halle Berry Is Not a Damsel in Distress” and “Halle Berry Is Not a Victim of Failed Relationships.”

“I’m in the best relationship I have ever had,” she added of her relationship with Hunt in the interview, which noted that they were set up during the COVID-19 pandemic by Hunt’s brother.
In a recent interview with The Times of London, Berry opened up about being celibate for several years before her relationship with Hunt.
“I was solo and celibate for four years,” she said in the January 30 interview. “I had to really sit myself down and be alone and grow and reflect and realize my value.”
“I had decided if the right person doesn’t come, I will be alone. And that’s OK,” said Berry. “I’m enough by myself. I’ve got my children. I have my career. That’s more than enough. I have an embarrassment of riches.”

“I have two children who are beautiful souls and I feel great about that,” she continued. “The relationships with their dads were not meant to be. But those kids were meant to be.”
In the interview, Berry said she “would not have been ready” for her relationship with Hunt had it not been for her divorces.
“I had to go through fire and burn to get to the point of appreciating a person like him,” she explained. “I was a moth to a flame. I no longer am that person.”
