An Albion man has pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run deaths of twin toddlers last summer.
Benjamin Lancaster, 44, entered that plea Wednesday at the Capital Judicial Center in Augusta, where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison with all but 15 years suspended, as well as four years of probation, according to the Kennebec Journal.
Lancaster was driving a white 2016 Hyundai Veloster on Hussey Road in Albion about 5:12 p.m. on July 11, 2025, when he hit then-33-year-old Mollie Egold of Albion as she walked with her twin sons, Bradley and Noah Bordeaux, both 2 years old, police said at the time.
Bradley died at the scene, while Noah and Egold were seriously injured.
Lancaster fled the scene.
Egold was taken to the hospital with broken hips, a broken leg, a broken hand and with glass embedded in her lower back. Because of the extent of her injuries, she wasn’t able to be with Noah when doctors took the boy off life support, the Journal reported.
It took three surgeries to repair the damage and months of rehabilitation to recover.
Lancaster’s blood later tested positive for THC, methamphetamine, methadone and anti-anxiety medication, according to the newspaper.
Once released, Lancaster could serve the remainder of his 25-year sentence if he violates his probation.
