An early morning fire destroyed a home in Lincoln on Wednesday.
The homeowner was woken by smoke alarms about 1:01 a.m. and discovered smoke throughout the house. When he went outside, he discovered flames spreading through the Main Street home, according to the Lincoln Fire Department.
Everyone inside the Victorian-style home escaped safely.
Firefighters came from as far away as Millinocket and Milford to help Lincoln’s crews contend with the blaze.
Crews twice tried to fight their way inside, but deteriorating conditions forced them out as flames spread through the attic, consuming what was left of the home.
The home was a total loss. No one was injured in the fight.
The Maine fire marshal’s office is working to determine what caused the blaze.
