To kick off a new month, the 2021 action thriller Copshop has found a new streaming home on Netflix.
Like many of Netflix’s other breakout action hits, Copshop underperformed when it was in theaters.
However, this film also earned great reviews, and it has more star power than a standard Netflix original movie. Maybe that explains why it shot to No. 2 on the streamer’s most popular movie charts this week.
Now, Watch With Us is sharing the three reasons you should watch Copshop on Netflix in February.
12 Must-Watch Action Movies on Netflix Right Now (January 2026)
It Features the Collision of Two Action Icons
Separately, Gerard Butler and Frank Grillo have headlined a lot of action movies. Most of Grillo’s flicks have admittedly been direct-to-video or direct-to-streaming, but he’s left an undeniable impact on the genre. Butler has had an even bigger profile, including his roles in 300, Plane, Greenland and more. One of the best things Copshop has going for it is that it puts Butler and Grillo’s characters at odds from the start. Grillo plays Teddy Murretto, a con artist who is so desperate to get away from the hit placed on him by the mob that he immediately gets himself arrested in Las Vegas.
Butler portrays Robert K. Viddick, an assassin who is on Teddy’s trail. And if Teddy is going to hide in prison, then Robert’s going to follow his example. The film wisely minimizes the physical interactions between these two by keeping bars between them. And that leaves them with some verbal sparring before the actual violence begins. It’s a thrill to see them together, because there’s only going to be one winner by the end.
Alexis Louder Earns Her Action Stripes
While a lot of the film is centered on Butler and Grillo’s characters, Alexis Louder is the unsung hero of Copshop. Her character, Valerie Young, is a police officer and the only unambiguously good person among the leading players. Valerie’s morality doesn’t make her boring — it turns her into a reluctant action star as she’s forced to do everything she can to keep Teddy and the other prisoners alive.

More impressively, Louder imbues Valerie with a lot of personality and action credibility. When the situation rapidly deteriorates around her, Valerie looks like she knows what she’s doing even as she’s forced to make some snap decisions about who she can trust. Louder may not be the name at the top of the credits, but Valerie becomes the audience surrogate and the one to root for.
The Conclusion Is Wild
Toby Huss costars in the film as Anthony Lamb, a rival assassin to Robert, who is completely unhinged. Once Lamb enters the picture, Copshop escalates its level of violence and gives both Robert and Teddy a reason to want him dead. Neither Robert nor Teddy can be called heroic figures, but they’re a lot easier to like than Lamb is.
It’s also refreshing how this film embraces its moral ambiguity. Robert and Teddy aren’t good men, and the ultimate showdown between them isn’t meant to be a cathartic moment. It does, however, close the story on a wild and unpredictable note, even if there’s never going to be a sequel that reveals what happens next.
