Three cats perished Monday evening in a house fire in Lincoln.
The fire broke out at the three-story Phillips Road home about 4:27 p.m., according to the Lincoln Fire Department.
Early in the battle, firefighters ran out of water, prompting those inside the home to evacuate. Crews then had to haul water in tankers three miles from the Penobscot River boat landing on Route 2 to Phillips Road.
After a nearly five-hour battle, firefighters extinguished the blaze.
The fire left the home’s living quarters uninhabitable, but firefighters kept the flames from spreading further into the first and second floors, which sustained only water damage. The home’s third floor only sustained smoke damage.
During the fire, three cats died, while a dog safely escaped.
The Maine fire marshal’s office ruled the fire accidental.
No injuries were reported.
