ROCKLAND, Maine — Illness among bus drivers led to the cancellation of classes Thursday in Regional School Unit 13.
“Today we had to cancel school due to illness within our transportation department resulting in too few drivers to cover our bus runs across the district,” Superintendent John McDonald said. “The number of bus runs that would be canceled made it impossible to combine enough routes for a workable solution. We apologize for this situation and will be working today to determine how to move forward. We will post updates when they become available.”
The district has had five school days canceled with the first four due to weather.
A former RSU 13 bus driver recently pleaded not guilty to manslaughter for the death of 12-year-old Brayden Callahan, who was run over by his school bus in Rockland in late November. That bus has since been retired.
