BANGOR — Many adult children returned home after the holidays with a quiet, unsettling thought,  “Something seems different with Mom or Dad.” Maybe they moved a little slower. Maybe the stairs looked  harder. Maybe the house felt … less safe.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, two local organizations are coming together to help families answer the question  most people don’t know how to ask, “Is my parent safe at home — and how do I know before something  serious happens?”

FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers and Cornerstone Caregiving are hosting a free community education  workshop titled “Protecting Aging Parents: How to Spot Risks and Strengthen Home Safety”

Where: FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers, 31 Bangor Mall Blvd., Bangor

When: Feb. 3 5:30–6:30 p.m.

This practical, eye-opening session is designed for adult children, caregivers and family members who want to understand the subtle warning signs that often appear weeks or months before a fall or hospitalization.

“Most families don’t realize there are clear, early clues that someone is struggling at home,” says Kate Hills,  operating director, Cornerstone Caregiving. “By the time a fall happens, those signs were usually present for  quite a while. We want to help people recognize them early — when simple changes can prevent a crisis.”

Attendees will learn:

• How to “fall-proof” a home in ways most people never consider

• The small mobility and behavior changes that signal increased risk

• When a loved one may need additional support — even if they insist they’re fine • Proactive steps families can take immediately to improve safety and independence

The event is part of FYZICAL’s ongoing Free Community Education Series, aimed at helping the Bangor region age safely, confidently, and independently. Cornerstone Caregiving will also share how in-home  support can extend independence and provide peace of mind for families navigating these concerns.

This is not a sales event — it’s an informational conversation designed to give families real tools they can use  right away. RSVP is requested at 207-291-5714.
