The Eddington Elementary School was evacuated Thursday morning because of odors in the building.
About 95 kids in the school were evacuated at 8:30 a.m. after staff reported odors, Eddington Fire Chief Ryan Davis said. It happened around drop-off time and a school bus was on site to keep kids warm, he said.
Two kindergarten teachers reported having headaches and smelling an odor, Davis said. The administration decided to evacuate out of precaution, Superintendent Sheila Caldwell said.
After students were evacuated to the bus; they were then taken to Holbrook Middle School and sent home for the day, Davis said.
The fire department spent about two hours searching the building and found no hazardous gas, Davis said. It may have been a sewer issue, he added.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection was also involved in the sweep, Caldwell said.
The fire department will search the building Friday morning before staff and students arrive, Caldwell said. If there are no issues found, classes will resume.
