Netflix recently debuted its new teen sports drama Finding Her Edge, based on the novel by Jennifer Iacopelli. It follows the three sisters of a dynastic figure skating family as they grapple with love and finding themselves.

‘Heated Rivalry’ May Be Over, But This Sexy Netflix Show Should Fill the Void
‘Heated Rivalry’ (2025) — HBO Max
The gay hockey phenom Heated Rivalry hardly needs any introduction. If you’ve been on social media for the past few months, you’ve likely been bombarded with Heated Rivalry without ever seeking it out. The show follows two rival hockey players who ultimately become involved in a multi-year sexual romance with one another. Canadian Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Russian Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) are from different worlds, but both know that their affair getting out could cost them their respective athletic careers. Torn between ambition and love, will the two be able to find a happy ending?
If you want sex, drama, romance and high entertainment value, you’ll find that and more in Heated Rivalry. However, it’s not just because people love watching two hot guys make out that the show became such a pop cultural phenomenon — although that’s certainly a big part of it. It also boasts great character development, solid storytelling and a genuinely nuanced portrait of the cultural challenges of being a queer professional athlete in the 2010s.
‘Olympo’ (2025) — Netflix
Keep the high-stakes drama and competitive intrigue coming with Netflix’s Olympo, which was sadly canceled this year after just one season. Still, the show is a must-watch if you want more teen sports dramas full of beautiful people. And this show has the beautiful people doing bad things in addition to making out with each other. The YA sports show follows an elite performing center in Spain that hosts the country’s most promising athletes. But when a swimmer collapses, a fellow athlete looks into the extremes that are being taken to be the best.
Olympo has plenty of sex and skin, but not as much in the coherent plot and character development departments. Still, it’s a fun time and won’t disappoint if you’re looking for a show that mostly exists to shuttle you from one dramatic or salacious situation to the next. It also helps that Olympo is extremely well-made — it features great filmmaking, production design, an infectious score and an addictively propulsive pace.
‘Spinning Out’ (2020) — Netflix
Like Finding Her Edge, Spinning Out focuses on the world of figure skating, but it has a much different premise. The story focuses on Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), an up-and-coming competitive ice skater who suffers from a fall that could end her career. On the verge of giving up, Kat ultimately decides to continue as a pair skater with Justin Davis (Evan Roderick) — a wealthy bad boy who can never keep a partner. Together, the skaters fight to keep it together and beat the odds, while Kat fights to hold onto a devastating secret that could threaten her comeback.
HBO Max’s New Show ‘Heated Rivalry’ Has Everyone Talking — Is It Worth Watching?
High in the campy melodrama, Spinning Out succeeds as an entertaining guilty pleasure while also doubling as a surprisingly thoughtful exploration of mental illness. While uneven at times, Spinning Out is overall an addictive watch with two terrific performances from Scodelario and Roderick. If you enjoyed the depictions of class struggle and overbearing stage mothering in something like the film I, Tonya, you will likely enjoy this soapy comfort food version.
