January is almost over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t discover all the new movies that have been added to Paramount+.
There’s a lot to watch on the streamer, which is why Watch With Us has curated a list of the best films to watch.
Using Rotten Tomatoes as a barometer, we’ve selected three great movies for you to watch — the action flick Baby Driver with Jamie Foxx, the thriller The Grifters and the comedy Everybody Wants Some!! — that have around 90 percent on the Tomatometer.
‘Baby Driver’ (2017)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 92 percent
Miles (Ansel Elgort) is a young man with a unique gift — he’s the best getaway driver in Atlanta. He’s no criminal, though — he’s just paying off a debt owed to the city’s killer kingpin, Doc (Kevin Spacey). But when he’s persuaded by Doc’s misfit crew to participate in a risky robbery that goes awry, Miles’ life is turned upside down. With a new romance with kind-hearted waitress Debora (Lily James) on the line, can Miles stage one last getaway from his criminal comrades and the cops who are hot on his trail?
A sleeper hit in 2017, Baby Driver is an effortlessly cool action movie with some killer stunt driving, a captivating narrative loaded with breathless chases and double-crosses and a great soundtrack. The cast is pretty impressive, too, with a baby-faced Elgort stepping effortlessly into a reluctant action-hero role and Jon Hamm letting his inner psycho bad guy loose. It’s also one of the rare action movies to have a realistic ending, with Miles facing the music in more ways than one.
‘The Grifters’ (1990)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 92 percent
Roy Dillon (John Cusack) thinks he has what it takes to be an expert con artist. His mother, the platinum blonde Lilly (Anjelica Huston), doesn’t think so — she thinks Roy’s too reckless and stupid to pull off the kind of cons she executes effortlessly. When Roy is encouraged by his new girlfriend, the scheming bombshell Myra (Annette Bening), to participate in some risky crimes, it drives a wedge between mother and son — and compels Myra to eliminate Lilly from Roy’s life for good.
Nominated for four Oscars in 1991, The Grifters is one of the best neo-noir movies ever made. Adapted by famous crime author Donald E. Westlake, the plot has enough twists to keep you on edge — and an ending so shocking, you might just lose your breath. The three leads are fantastic, with Huston giving the best performance of her career as a woman who will do anything — and I do mean anything — to survive, even if it costs what’s left of her soul.
‘Everybody Wants Some!!’ (2016)
Rotten Tomatoes score: 87 percent
It’s the fall of 1980, and college freshman Jake Bradford (Glee’s Blake Jenner) is looking forward to moving in with members of his University of Texas baseball team before school starts. At first, he’s a bit intimidated by them, especially the alpha male Glen McReynolds (Tyler Hoechlin), but soon he’s one of the boys, drinking too much on the weekends and falling in love with fellow incoming student Beverly (Zoey Deutch). With classes looming on the horizon, will Jake find a place for himself in Beverly’s life and with his newfound friends?
Directed by Before Sunrise filmmaker Richard Linklater, Everybody Wants Some!! is a pleasantly low-stakes comedy that is fueled more by vibes than plot. It’s a chill hangout movie with a bunch of bros who just want to have a good time, and that feeling is infectious — it’s entertaining hanging out with these characters, even if they don’t have a lot to do. The movie nails the feeling of that specific period in the waning days of summer, when you want to experience as much fun as possible before school starts.
