Michal McKee was reportedly spotted at the Columbus, Ohio, home of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband Spencer Tepe, just weeks before he allegedly killed them in December 2025, according to newly released court documents.

McKee, 39, was captured on video on December 6, 2025, trespassing on the property surrounding the home owned by Spencer, 37, and Monique, 39. He was then seen leaving the property hours later, according to a probable cause affidavit viewed by People.

The affidavit also stated that Monique and Spencer were not home at the time of the incident. Instead, they were at the Big Ten Championship football game in Indiana with several other couples.

During the game, Monique excused herself from the group and went back to the hotel room. Spencer then told their friends that she was “upset about something involving her ex-husband and he was going back to the hotel,” according to the document.

Police Charge Ex-Husband With the Murders of Ohio Dentist and His Wife

McKee was seen on the property’s curtilage — which is the area surrounding the home — which he accessed via the back alleyway. After he was spotted in the surveillance video, investigators confirmed that he was not scheduled to work at the Illinois hospital he was employed by on December 6.

Police claimed that McKee returned to the Tepes’ home on December 30, 2025, and shot Monique and Spencer to death.

McKee was arrested on Saturday, January 10, in Rockford, Illinois, after investigators learned his car was seen near the crime scene on the night of Monique and Spencer’s deaths.

The new court documents revealed even more evidence of McKee’s connection to the crime. He reportedly left his phone at his workplace in Illinois on December 30, which “showed no activity for approximately 17 hours.”

He was originally charged with murder, though the charges have since been upgraded to four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary.

McKee made his first court appearance on Monday, January 12, where his lawyer shared his intention to enter a not guilty plea and said he was waiving his right to an extradition hearing. On Friday, January 23, McKee entered that not guilty plea.

The former couple got married in 2015 and split seven months later, finalizing their divorce in 2017.

Following Monique and Spencer’s deaths, a witness told authorities that McKee was “abusive” and told Monique that “he could kill her at any time.”

Her friends and family claimed that Monique told them McKee “made numerous threats on her life during and after their marriage,” according to court documents viewed by ABC News.

Additionally, one witness told detectives that Monique claimed McKee strangled her and “forced unwanted sex.”

Another witness claimed that McKee told Monique he could easily kill her and “would find her and buy the house right next to her.” The witness added that McKee said Monique would “always be his wife.

The new revelations come after Monique and Spencer’s family opened up about the alleged abuse she suffered during her marriage to McKee.

“Monique was very vocal about being terrified of this guy [until her death],” the couple’s brother-in-law Rob Misleh told People on Wednesday, January 14. “He was very emotionally abusive to her, to the point that it changed her as a person.”
