Kim Kardashian is sharing insight on why she removed an image of Meghan Markle from her social media in the so-called “photogate.”
“It was really innocent, which is so crazy,” Kim, 45, said on the Wednesday, January 28, episode of sister Khloé Kardashian’s “Khloé in Wonder Land” podcast. “Mom [Kris Jenner] and Meghan have been friends for some years now and they have a really sweet relationship.”
She continued, “We took a photo. And then I think, we were all going through them. We’re all, you know, communicating about what we’re going to post. We’re never ones to post without permission. It’s not who we are.”
Khloé interjected to add that the family is “very respectful” with asking others for their approval on their posts.
Kris Jenner Also Appears to Have Deleted an IG Photo With Meghan Markle
“We have the craziest, funnest photos from that night, you know? But we were posting just like fun photos,” Kim shared, as Khloé noted that the images that were shared were “dignified.”
Kim agreed. “Totally. We were told that it was totally cool to post,” she said. “And then after it was posted, I think they realized it was Remembrance Day and they didn’t want to be seen at a party even though it’s already up, you know, and then taken down. And then I think they realized, ‘Ah, this was so silly.’” (Remembrance Day is a holiday observed annually in the U.K. to honor military veterans who served the Commonwealth.)
Kim made headlines in November 2025 when she shared a carousel of images from Kris’ 70th birthday celebration — including one photo of her and Meghan smiling for the camera, while Prince Harry was spotted in the background having a conversation. Shortly after Kim posted the images, the pic of her and Meghan disappeared. Us Weekly reached out to Kim’s rep for comment at the time.
While reflecting back on the situation, Khloé noted on Wednesday that Meghan and Harry were at the Baby2Baby gala “right before” taking the photo at Kris’ 70th birthday party. (The nonprofit organization provides children in need with basic essentials.)
Meghan Markle’s Friendship With Kim and the Kardashian Family Explained
“Well, it’s like a charity event, so that was fine,” Kim explained. “But maybe not partying and dancing on the dance floor. Whatever, so we took them down to respect Remembrance Day. You just gotta laugh at the situation sometimes and just, like, lighten it up. If everyone is taking it the wrong way, lean in.”
She continued, “I was like, ‘We should do a full Skims campaign. Take the photo. Even just us, like I’ll shoot you … Post it and then delete it, like, 30 minutes later. And then I say, Oh sorry, I didn’t have permission to post those photos for the campaign.’ I was like, ‘That would have hit so funny if we just made it light and made it funny.’ You know, I think it would have been received differently.”
Kim went on to note that she “hated how that was received for everyone,” adding, “That sucks.”
“It was just made into something that was so crazy and ridiculous,” Kim concluded, “that just didn’t have to be.”
