Married to Medicine star Dr. Heavenly Kimes has a positive update to share in regards to her estranged relationship with son Damon Jr.

“I’ve seen him on FaceTime. We’re talking every day now, so we’re building and I’m happy for that,” Heavenly, 55, exclusively shared with Us Weekly on Wednesday, January 21. “Whatever he needs, I got to give him the time.”

During season 12 of Married to Medicine, which is currently airing Sundays on Bravo, Heavenly revealed that she wasn’t speaking to her son after learning about his past arrest.

While the Atlanta-based dentist still hasn’t seen Damon Jr. in person in “almost a year now,” she is grateful for the progress they have made.

The Bravo reality star is also happy that she chose to share this part of her life through reality TV.

“It helps other people out there,” she argued. “I cannot be the only one dealing with something like this.”

In 2025, Damon Jr. was indicted for alleged felony aggravated assault on a police officer during a 2023 altercation. In August 2025, the case was placed on judicial hold, and Damon Jr. was ordered to complete community service and mental health counseling.

During a December 2025 episode of Married to Medicine, Heavenly revealed to the cameras that she found out about her son’s arrest through social media – even though her husband, Dr. Damon Kimes, was aware of the legal situation for the two years.

“Had it not happened publicly, you wouldn’t have seen it on camera to be very honest with you,” Heavenly shared with Us. “However, I look at it as a testimony. It was something that happened, and you can look at yourself and I blame myself for different things, but I’m not in control of anybody but myself.”

Heavenly said her son is in another state and joked that he looks “plump” when they FaceTime.

“You always worry about if your baby ate or not. You know what I’m saying?” she told Us. “He’s doing well. I’m sure I will see him soon, but it’s a testimony, because things could have gone very differently.”

The incident has given Heavenly another reason to pursue politics. The reality star is currently running for the Georgia District 13 Congressional race.

According to her campaign website, Heavenly’s main focus is education, access to healthcare, generational wealth and criminal justice reform.

“I want things to be different for people when they have experience with a police officer,” Heavenly shared. “We’re coming up with so many different things. … It always takes a Black female or female in general to fix things in my community.”

When asked if she will continue filming Married to Medicine if she is elected by the people, Heavenly said fans will just have to watch what happens.

“Everybody keeps asking every day. I think it’s unprecedented,” she said. “I’m not closing any doors ever. This political [race] is very important to me. I think it’s very much needed.”

Married to Medicine airs on Bravo Sundays at 9 p.m. ET. Stream new episodes the next day on Peacock.
