Working immigrants are being swept up in ICE’s surge into Maine. The might of the federal government is coming down on a state with one of the smallest immigrant populations in the country, where the vast majority have permanent legal authorization to be here.
A Maine sheriff condemned ICE’s “bush league” arrest of a corrections recruit. Immigration enforcement agents had arrested 100 people in Maine as of Thursday afternoon, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Gov. Janet Mills called for federal agents to “show the warrants” if they have come to Maine to arrest immigrants.
