Six men are on the roster to represent the U.S. in alpine skiing at the upcoming Olympic Games, and one of them is a Mainer.
Sam Morse of Carrabassett Valley will be part of Team USA at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games, which run from Feb. 6-22 in Italy. Morse was named Monday among the 97 athletes nominated by U.S. Ski & Snowboard to represent the U.S. at the upcoming Olympics.
“The athletes we are sending to the Games represent a large portion of Team USA and I am confident about the impact they will make in Italy,” said U.S. Ski & Snowboard President and CEO Sophie Goldschmidt in a Monday press release. “More than the results, our athletes are also bringing some of the most captivating story lines to Milano Cortina, and we are so excited to see the impact they will have while representing their country in February.”
Morse has been skiing at Sugarloaf in his hometown since he was 23 months old, according to his bio on the U.S. Ski and Snowboard website. The Mainer’s childhood nickname was “Moose.”
He attended Carrabassett Academy and then Dartmouth College, and has spent 11 years as a member of the U.S. ski team. This will be his first Olympics.
Along with Morse, the other members of the alpine skiing roster are Bryce Bennett, Ryan Cochran-Siegle, Kyle Negomir, River Radamus and Ryder Sarchett.
Morse was the 2017 Junior World Downhill Champion.
