Former University of Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley was discharged from the hospital less than two weeks after suffering severe burns all over his body in an accident at his ranch.
His wife, Sunny Shipley, shared a photo of Jordan, 40, via Instagram hugging one of the couple’s two sons after his release. (Jordan and Sunny share sons Swayde, born in 2020, and Shield, born in 2021.)
“A hug I will never forget,” she wrote in the caption of the Sunday, January 19 post. “One of the happiest days of my life 🤍.”
Sunny revealed two days before that her husband had been discharged, but rather than returning home, the couple would be staying close to the hospital for the next phase of Jordan’s recovery.

“Because I know so many are praying, I wanted to let you know that we left the hospital,” she wrote in a note via Instagram. “I still can’t believe it. Numerous doctors, nurses and specialists kept telling us, as we were being discharged, that he is nothing short of a miracle and they’ve never seen someone come into their care in his condition and leave this soon…much less be out of a hospital bed.”
She continued, “He’s still in a lot of pain, we have a hard and long journey ahead but you can guarantee he and I will carry it with joy and praise. We aren’t quite home yet, but will stay close [to] the hospital as he has dressing changes and we will [monitor] his adjustment out of the hospital.”
Jordan was working on a piece of machinery at his ranch on January 6 when it suddenly caught fire. He was able to free himself, but not before suffering severe burns. He was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition.
Since then, his family has kept friends and fans updated on his recovery through frequent social media updates, making it clear that he has a long road ahead. He has undergone multiple surgeries since the accident and will need skin grafts on his arms, legs and hands, Sunny wrote in a Facebook update on January 8.

“It’s a necessary and life saving measure for many and we knew that, but it was crushing news nonetheless,” Sunny explained.
Jordan’s brother, Jaxon Shipley, and sister, Shelby Nuñez, both shared photos of Jordan in the days following the accident, showing him in his hospital bed, seemingly covered entirely in bandages.
A week after the accident, Sunny took to Facebook to warn fans not to fall for AI-generated photos appearing to show Jordan’s injuries. Her fear, she said, was that Swayde or Shield would see the fake images if they were shared enough.
Jaxon provided an update on Thursday, January 15, letting followers know that while his brother still had a long road ahead, his recovery was on track.
“Jordan is in pain, but is in the healing process!” he wrote via Instagram. “He got a redressing today on all of his wounds. They are saying no infections and that everything looks how it’s supposed to. Praise God. It will be a journey, certainly not an overnight thing.”
