Political commentator Piers Morgan has been hospitalized and is detailing his painful ordeal, including necessary surgery.
“1. Tripped on small step. 2. In a London hotel restaurant. 3. Fractured femur,” Morgan, 60, wrote via X and Instagram on Sunday, January 18, giving succinct details regarding his recent hospitalization.
“4. So badly I needed [a] new hip. 5. Recovering in hospital. 6. Crutches for 6wks,” Morgan continued, providing more – yet limited — information about the media personality’s recovery ahead. “7. No long-haul for 12 wks. 8. New Year off to a cracking start!”
Morgan included a selfie from his hospital bed in the upload. In the pic, Morgan flashed a thumbs up to the camera. It was clear from the photo that he has an IV and is receiving oxygen. The personality ended his update with a slight jab at President Donald Trump.
“9. I blame Donald Trump,” Morgan joked.

Morgan also included a photo of an x-ray showing the fracture via Instagram on Sunday. In the pic, Morgan circled the fracture, which appeared to be located close to the acetabulum, where the femur and the hip connect.
The controversial columnist detailed more of his ordeal in the comments section of his post, admitting to one follower that “the shame of it all is worse than the pain!” The commentator also admitted that he fell like a “sack of potatoes” when he tripped.
Morgan’s humorous reveal mirrored the way he announced his 2019 hospitalization — down to his joke about President Trump.
“Bad news… after some extensive hospital tests this morning it appears I’m not going to die,” Morgan joked via X, then Twitter, at the time. “I can only apologize for all the upset & offense I know this development will cause.”
Morgan later revealed he had been diagnosed with stomach issues.
“If you really want to know, I was diagnosed with stomach gastritis and duodenitis,” he explained via X at the time. “I blame eating a mouthful of vegan sausage roll, Brexit & Donald Trump.”
Stomach gastritis, according to the Mayo Clinic, is an inflammation of the stomach lining, often the result of an infection. Duodenitis, according to the Mayo Clinic, is an inflammation of the small part of the intestine that often causes burning stomach pain, nausea and bloating.

“Monday, 6:40am: I eat one mouthful of vegan sausage roll,” Morgan wrote at the time, detailing his ordeal. “Friday, 11am: hospitalized for gastroscopy on inflamed, exploding innards. I’m doing the maths.”
Morgan, who recovered from his stomach issue, revealed that during his 2019 hospitalization he “had a gastroscopy” but “fortunately” couldn’t remember it.
“I can’t remember a damn thing about it,” he said at the time. “Sedatives are my new best friend.”
Morgan recently made headlines for his conversation with the late Rob Reiner, which took place just months before the late director and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed.
“I’m not expecting this to happen anytime soon, Rob, you’re looking like a fine, healthy figure of a man,” the journalist told Reiner during a September interview on his show, Piers Morgan Uncensored. “But should the moment come when we need to remember the work of Rob Reiner, which is the one for you, of everything that you’ve ever done, that you’d most like to be remembered for?”
“People have their favorites, the cliche [is], we love all our children, even the bad ones,” Reiner responded at the time. “I always say, Stand by Me, to me, is the one that meant the most to me.”
Three months later, authorities found Rob and Michele dead in their home. The following day, on December 15, 2025, Rob and Michele’s son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged in connection with his parents’ deaths. Nick, 32, remains in custody and is being held without bail.
