A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday for the midcoast and Down East, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

Those areas can expect 3 to 6 inches of snow, with localized higher amounts possible. Plan on slippery road conditions and reduced visibility, forecasters said.

The rest of Maine can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow from Sunday through Monday morning as low pressure passes offshore Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Gray. The steadiest and heaviest snow is expected Sunday night.

Little if any snow is expected north of the Bangor region.

There is a chance for snow showers on Monday, with afternoon highs in the low to mid-20s north and upper 20s to lower 30s for the Bangor area.

Below-normal temperatures will dominate the forecast through most of the week, with bitter cold temps near zero expected Tuesday night. The next chance for snow is Thursday.
