Former University of Texas wide receiver Jordan Shipley is in the midst of a difficult recovery after an accident on his ranch left him with severe burns covering his body.
“Jordan is in pain, but is in the healing process!” Jordan’s brother Jaxon Shipley wrote via Instagram on Thursday, January 15. “He got a redressing today on all of his wounds. They are saying no infections and that everything looks how it’s supposed to. Praise God. It will be a journey, certainly not an overnight thing.”
Jordan, 40, was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition on January 6 after a piece of machinery he was working on caught fire. Since then, his family has kept fans updated on his progress, which has included multiple surgeries.
While his wife, Sunny Shipley, said Jordan faces a long road to recovery, she has offered hopeful updates in the days since. Most recently, she shared that his latest re-dressing went well.

“His burns are looking like they’re supposed to,” she wrote via Facebook on Wednesday, January 14. “He’s in pain but in good spirits. He knows how lucky and blessed he is.”
She also gave an optimistic update two days after the accident, saying Jordan’s recovery was already exceeding expectations.
“[The doctor] explained that his burns looked far better than anything he was expecting to find after his assessment the day before,” she wrote via Facebook on January 8. “He said he’d never seen anything like it and didn’t know how to explain it.”
“He still has a long recovery,” Sunny cautioned. “[There will] be scarring and some long term changes, but the news we got today was better than best case scenario. A miracle.”

That same day, Jordan’s sister, Shelby Nuñez, went into more detail about what he needs to happen to one day be able to “play catch with his boys” again.
“Please pray that the cells work overtime in healing under the surface — capillaries, nerves, etc.,” she wrote via Facebook. “Please pray for full thickness of skin (after a severe burn takes place, it can continue to burn through layers for days). Please pray against any infection. Please pray for full mobility in arms, legs, and both hands.”
Jordan and Sunny married in 2011 and share two sons: Swayde, born in 2020, and Shield, born in 2021.
Sunny expressed concern on Tuesday, January 13 over Swayde and Shield stumbling upon AI-generated images which people claimed to be of Jordan’s gruesome injuries, urging fans not to share them.

“I’ve had some messages about AI pictures of Jordan going around,” Sunny wrote via Facebook. “Please know that I or anyone else will never post a picture of Jordan’s face in the hospital online. His face is going to heal fine.”
“Praise the Lord, but we don’t want our boys to ever see the images of his face right after [the] accident,” she added. “So please don’t re-post any of that, and spread word that those are fake images. Thank you.”
Jordan played his entire collegiate career with the Longhorns before heading to the NFL as a third-round pick. He played three years in the league for the Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jacksonville Jaguars.
